2 New Mexico Native Women’s Wellness
Pink Shawl Project

The 2008 project brings women’s health (breast and cervical) information to Native Americans in a safe, culturally relevant manner by incorporating the fringed fabric shawl, which is used throughout traditional community events. Enjoy educational seminars, reception with traditional blessings and honorings followed by a health fair, and powwow.

3 Spring Cottonwood Festival at
Albuquerque’s Urban Oasis

4 Run for the Zoo

8 Tarahumara Survival:
Preserving Traditional Culture in the 21st Century

Patricinio Lopez, of the Tarahumara people of the Sierra Madre/Copper Canyon area in northern Mexico, discusses modern challenges to Tarahumara life and plays traditional music on a hand-carved violin. His violins are noted for their workmanship; he has won a national violin-making championship six years in a row.

10 Keshet Dance Company Presents Ani Ma’amin
(I Believe in Hebrew)

Exploring the impact of the Holocaust on American Jews. Movement is threaded together with spoken text adapted from existing works by Holocaust victims and survivors, new writings created by participating community members and visual imagery including photographs, video footage and video testimony from the Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education. Presented in partnership with the New Mexico Holocaust and Intolerance Museum; co-sponsored by the City of Albuquerque.
